    K'gari

Off the coast of Queensland lies a place of wonder: K’gari, known to many as Fraser Island. Stretching for over a hundred kilometres, it is the largest sand island on Earth. Here, dunes rise like great pale mountains, sculpted by wind and sea, while freshwater lakes, impossibly clear, lie cradled within the sandy expanse. Ancient rainforests take root in the very heart of the island, thriving improbably upon sand, their towering canopies alive with birdsong. K’gari is a landscape of contrasts—fragile, resilient, and profoundly beautiful.

This hand-knotted rug seeks to capture that extraordinary spirit. Its design ripples with soft gradations of sand-white, ochre, and ocean blue, recalling the interplay of beach, dune, and sea. Subtle flowing patterns evoke the wind’s trace upon the sand, while deeper tones suggest the shaded stillness of rainforest pools hidden inland.

Each knot, placed with patient artistry, reflects the enduring rhythm of K’gari itself—an island shaped over millennia, yet ever alive, ever changing. Wool and silk are woven together to create both strength and luminous texture, a fabric echoing the duality of fragility and resilience that defines this remarkable place.

To walk upon it is to tread the story of K’gari: the hush of waves meeting endless shore, the cool depths of freshwater lakes, the ancient presence of forests rooted in sand. More than a rug, “K’gari” is an ode in fibre—an evocation of one of nature’s rarest harmonies, carried into the home as a reminder of the island’s timeless beauty.
